When the nerve of a tooth has become infected the best way of saving the tooth is to perform a root canal filling. Once bacteria have contaminated the nerve of a tooth it can become very painful. Usually the source of such infections is dental decay (a deep hole in the tooth). Provided there is enough tooth remaining the nerve and infection can be cleaned out from within the tooth and the nerve canals can be sealed off. This process is called root canal treatment. Whilst the process sounds quite simple it is actually quite complicated as the nerve canals within teeth are very thin and often curved. At City Dentists we use the latest in motorised rotary root canal preparation equipment. This system involves using very thin flexible files to clean out the canals of the tooth, which are consequently sealed with a root canal filling material.
