Sedation Dentistry

If you are very nervous or anxious about dental treatment or need some complicated treatment sedation dentistry may help you. At City Dentists we offer intravenous sedation, a technique where a drug (similar to valium) is injected into a vein in your arm to help relax you. This is a conscious sedation technique where you feel very sleepy, relaxed and happy but you are awake and able to respond to your dentist. The drug used is called midazolam. It induces a deep state of relaxation and a feeling of not being worried by what is going on. It can also produce partial or full memory loss (amnesia) for the period of time from when it is administered until it wears off. As a result time seems to pass very quickly or indeed you may feel like you’ve been asleep in spite of being conscious during your procedure. If you are nervous or anxious intravenous sedation can be used for most procedures in dentistry and can be particularly helpful for more major procedures like having your wisdom teeth removed.
